Wednesday January 23 11:00 am  Mario Lanza Museum/Mother Bethel AME Church/Vietnam Memorial/Korean War Memorial/Irish Famine Memorial/Philadelphia's Magic Gardens (if time)/Free Opening Reception of Marcellus Sharle Documentary Project  We will meet at 11:00 at the Mario Lanza Museum, 712 Montrose St, Philadelphia, PA 19147, 215-238-9691, www.mariolanzainstitute.org. We will go on a self-guided tour. The cost is free. At 2:00, we will take a tour of Mother Bethel AME Church, 419 South 6th Street (between Lombard & Pine Streets), Philadelphia, PA 19147, 215-925-0616, www.motherbethel.org. Mother Bethel was founded by former slaves, Richard and Sarah Allen, who were abolitionists and also helped save Philadelphia during the Yellow Fever Epidemic. The cost is free. If there is time, we will go to Philadelphia's Magic Gardens, 1020 South Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147, 215-733-0390, www.philamagicgardens.org. Philadelphia's Magic Gardens are the indoor exhibit of Master Mosaicer Isaiah Zagar. Afterwards, we will check out his wife's store of folk art down the street at 402 South Street. The cost is $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. At 5:00, we will go to the Vietnam, Korean and Irish Famine Memorials on Front & Spruce Streets, Philadelphia, PA. At 6:00, we will go to the Marcellus Sharle Documentary Project and free reception. The Marcellus Sharle is about 6 photographers who show the impact of natural gas drilling around Marcellus Shale in Northeastern PA. This event is held at the YMHA, Borowsky Gallery, 401 S. Broad Street (Broad and Pine Streets), Philadelphia, PA, 19147. 215-545-4500, www.gershmany.org. Wear layers of clothes and bring lunch, snack and water.
